SKYY Global

How can we help?

SKYY Global

The ask:

Create a library of lifestyle and beverage stills, along with :06s, :15s and :30s, for 3 different countries (USA, Mexico, Asia), in 3 different scenarios each (brunch, home, bar), for Skyy Vodka with our friends at 160/90.

The solve:

If you do some quick math above, you can see the number of deliverables is substantial. Our answer to a complicated equation is always planning, additional planning and more planning. We removed all the question marks and built an efficient and doable schedule to flow seamlessly from stills to motion and back again through all our talent groups. It was a whirlwind, but all went according to the very type-A plan.

The Nitty Gritty:

You can see the work below, as well as a breakdown of some important elements that brought this thing together.

  • Photographer & Director Brandon Voges
  • Producer Eric Sucher

Into the Weeds

Talent castings, tech scouts, even techier camera builds, pre-pro calls, and A LOT of research went into making everything run smoothly, and it started months before the "action!" cue. Each country has different, culturally specific ways of showing big beverage brands like SKYY Vodka. Props, wardrobe, and food styling all needed to feel localized, so we catered to each market's advertising nuances as we went. Below are a few of those details that led us to success

Culture Shock

International Considerations

Did you know that in alcohol ads in Mexico, you are legally not allowed to touch the alcohol on camera? Did you know that limes are not common in Asian drinks (lemons are much more popular)? There were a number of things we had to be aware of for this project to make sure we were speaking authentically to the given cultures, from food and drink, to wardrobe and furniture.

Gotta have...

Talent

Casting is not just about looks. We believe you have to dig in and find chemistry, personality and creativity for everyone that is in front of the camera. We throw a wide net and narrow down until we have the perfect friend group that works together just so. We want every person to feel comfortable and enjoy their time on set, because it definitely shows in the imagery.

Food, Beverage, and Wardrobe

So Many Stylists

A challenge of this global project was creating evergreen, and culturally tailored wardrobe and food combinations - not only for one culture, but for three. The content created was unique and specific to each place. We had some great food stylists and wardrobe stylists, with their knowledge of cultural cuisine and fashion, on set with us to guide the process.

Bring it Home

Retouching

We have a team of retouchers at the ready to take your images to that final polish. Don't be surprised if you see a retoucher on set during the shoot. To keep things moving efficiently we like to have a retoucher plugged into the shoot to go over each shot and quickly comp together anything that requires multiple images.

We utilize a centralized website called Hightail for file reviews and markups. This allows everyone on your team (and ours) to view and make comments all in one place, no matter how many cities you're in. And don't worry, your photographer(s) are involved in the entire process to see the vision through.

The Cut

Where all the work comes together, is in the edit. We cut, color, sound design and visually affect all your hard work. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do and we approach each project as a partner. We like dark rooms, coffee, vibe, and believe the process is as important as the product. As much as we love treating clients to our whiskey fountain, we have a smooth and seamless remote workflow to use when you need to give notes from your couch instead of ours.

Tailormade Transitions

For this project, we thought it important to make the drinks and product it's own character in each piece. With that in mind, after the shoot, we came back to the studio and shot some super macro, delicious and interesting transitions and "in drink" shots to pull it all together. 10 different transitions were shot, all with a unique creative thumbprint that fit right into each environment.
